Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP)

The Phyllis J. Washington College of Education at the University of Montana is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), 1120 19th St., NW, Suite 400, Washington, DC 20036; phone (202) 223-007. This accreditation covers initial teacher preparation programs and advanced educator preparation programs. CAEP is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to accredit programs for the preparation of teachers and other professional school personnel.

Montana Board of Public Education (BPE)

The Montana Board of Public Education that sets the Professional Educator Preparation Program Standards (PEPPS), reviews the programs jointly with CAEP in conjunction with CAEP's review cycle, and grants accreditation to each program area based on the recommendations of the review team. Montana enjoys state partnership status with CAEP, meaning that CAEP accepts Montana's program standards as being equivalent to the national standards set by the specialty program areas.

Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP)

The vision of the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) is to provide leadership and to promote excellence in professional preparation through the accreditation of counseling and related educational programs.  As an accrediting body, CACREP is committed to the development of standards and procedures that reflect the needs of a dynamic, diverse, and complex society. CACREP is dedicated to encouraging and promoting the continuing development and improvement of preparation programs and preparing counseling and related professionals to provide services consistent with the ideal of optimal human development. CACREP has granted accreditation to the following programs in the Department of Counselor Education in the Phyllis J. Washington College of Education:

  • M.A. Mental Health Counseling
  • M.A. School Counseling
  • Counselor Education & Counseling (PhD)

National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)

The National Association for the Education of Young Children is the nation’s leading organization of early childhood professionals and represents the mark of quality in early childhood education. Through an intensive self-study and on-site review by NAEYC Assessors, approximately 8% of all preschools and other early childhood programs have earned this mark of quality for program excellence.
