End-of-summer Write-ins!
Join us for two half-days of in-person writing time to help you end the summer strong; a little bit of accountability and community can go a long way! Registration is encouraged but not required. Just show up and write.
- Thursday and Friday, August 20th and 21st. 9am-12pm. Location: Mansfield Library, Room 322. Come when you can, stay as long as you are able.
Starting Strong: Improve your productivity!
Join Writing Center staff and fellow graduate students to discuss writing strategies to get you started and to help you stay on track. We'll lead a discussion about goal-setting and scheduling, tracking progress and improving productivity. A version of this workshop is offered at the beginning of each semester and summer session.

Fall Semester Workshop Series
Jointly hosted by Writing Center and Mansfield Library faculty and staff, this five-part workshop series focuses on an array of strategies to tackle common challenges of research and writing in graduate school. All workshops run for 50 minutes and are offered both in-person (1pm in the Theta Rho Room of the Mansfield Library, 4th floor) or online (5pm via Zoom; link provided after registration). An additional 30 minutes will be available for questions and discussion. Register here for one or more of the below workshops.
Workshop 1. Get rolling on your writing
Strategies for managing your writing process and staying organized. Join us for a presentation on evidence-based strategies for developing productive writing habits and tips to keep your research projects organized. Co-hosted by Catherine Filardi (Writing Center) and Erin Baucom (Mansfield Library).

Workshop 2. Literature reviews are hard, Part 1
Strategies for finding, analyzing and using sources. We’ll discuss the purpose and process of a lit review, including effective search strategies, ways to keep track of what you’re reading, using patterns to build an argument, and how to make sense of the chaos! Co-hosted by Catherine Filardi (Writing Center) and Kate Zoellner (Mansfield Library).

Workshop 3. Literature reviews are hard, Part 2
Strategies for organizing and synthesizing your research. We’ll dive into the structure of a lit review and talk about strategies for synthesizing information, pointing out gaps in the literature, bringing in your voice, and identifying organizational patterns. Hosted by Catherine Filardi (Writing Center).

Workshop 4. Publishing demystified
Strategies for writing journal articles and exploring publication options. We’ll provide an overview of manuscript preparation and the publication process, and address often-confusing publication options including Open Access and copyright issues. Co-hosted by Catherine Filardi (Writing Center) and Wendy Walker (Mansfield Library).

Workshop 5. Make citation management easier
Strategies for choosing, using, and leveraging the power of reference systems. After introducing available tools, we’ll demonstrate how to organize and store sources, generate citations and bibliographies, and discuss how to incorporate these tools into your research and writing practices. Hosted by Kate Zoellner (Mansfield Library).
