Scribes for tests

A scribe writes down or records the test taker’s responses. 

A scribe can: 

  • Write down the exact, word for word responses of the test taker. 
  • Confirm the test taker’s response for accuracy before writing down.
  • Write down an outline as directed by the test taker.
  • Type the test taker’s answers or response into a computer.
  • Read the answer aloud and allow the test taker to dictate revisions. 

A scribe cannot: 

  • Suggest what to say for a better response.
  • Suggest how to structure the test taker’s responses.
  • Provide definition of words.
  • Select better words for the test taker.
