Opportunities to Support Recruitment
Admissions and Enrollment Services at the University of Montana welcomes the participation of academic partners in the recruitment of new students to UM. There are several ways that faculty members, staff and academic departments can assist in new student recruitment. See the options below to learn more.
On-Campus Events and Outreach Support
Recruitment Swag and Event Support
Whenever you are hosting prospective students (high schoolers or potential transfer students) on campus, Admissions and Enrollment Services is happy to partner with you in a variety of ways, including:
- Recruitment brochures and limited swag
- Contact cards for prospective student follow-up
- Admissions information tabling and event representation
- Campus tours
- Admissions presentations or Q&A sessions
- Event registration through Slate
- Name badge printing
See the full list and request services or materials here.
Please submit requests at least two weeks in advance. These services are focused on prospective student recruitment and are scheduled based on timing, inventory and staff capacity, so advance notice results in the best level of support.
Not sure what support would be most helpful? Please reach out! Admissions staff are happy to talk through your plans to find the right approach together.
Also, please share your calendar of regularly occurring recruitment events. (E.g. Thespian Festival in February, Annual Music Department Auditions, DECA in January, Model UN, etc.). Admissions staff are working to create a comprehensive recruitment calendar of events so we can plan ahead, avoid conflicting events and be available to provide support.
Daily Tours
Admissions offers daily tours Monday through Friday at 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Students can select from a variety of department meetings as part of their visit. If your department would like to offer meetings for prospective students during the spring semester, please submit this form.
We update these meetings on a semester-by-semester basis to account for any schedule changes.
Prospective students can sign up for daily visits here.
Group Tours
For student groups visiting outside of a recruitment event, or if you would like to request a tour for a visitor, including visiting faculty or other guests, please submit our group visit form.
Gilkey Building Lobby Materials
Admissions can display department-specific materials in the Gilkey Building lobby for visiting students to peruse during their campus visit. Printed copies of your materials can be delivered to the Gilkey Building front desk or you can send a digital copy to julieann.williams@umontana.edu.
Admissions Recruitment Events
Admissions regularly requests support from our campus partners during large recruitment events (Griz Preview Days, Admitted Student Days, etc.). Opportunities may include tabling, providing breakout sessions or other program participation. Admissions staff reach out to department representatives ahead of each event to coordinate and always welcome your questions, ideas and feedback.
Off-Campus Recruitment
If you’re planning travel to a high school or college, Admissions would love to know about it. Complete the Admissions Materials Request form to receive materials for your visit. This form also includes a box you can check if you’d prefer to have Admissions staff support.
Note: Submit your request as early as possible, especially when requesting human staffing/assistance, as it can be easy or difficult depending on the time of year. Admissions requests at least two weeks' notice for admissions/recruitment materials, with a preferred four weeks' notice for Admissions staff support or assistance (to have an Admissions Counselor join with you).
Admissions would love to support the work you are already doing and record of your interactions in Slate, UM's Customer Relationship Manager (CRM). Depending on the information submitted via the Admissions Materials Request form, Admissions may be able to create an event registration form with a QR code where students can register for your event digitally.
Faculty Recruitment Portal
To access the Faculty/Department Recruitment Portal, users will need basic Slate access. For access, please email enrollment.tech@mso.umt.edu with your name, department affiliation and NetID.
Once you have an account, the Slate portal can be accessed here.
Admissions recommends bookmarking this webpage for the time being. In the future, there will be a public-facing webpage.
The portal currently has two views: 1) list view, and 2) detail view. The list view is the first view you will come to when accessing the portal. It provides a list of all admitted students in your college sorted by major. You can click into any row in the list view to access the detail view.
In the detail view, you will see additional student information, including contact information, event registration(s) and some correspondence history. You will also have the ability to log contact/interactions you have with the student. Any contact data you submit will be added to the applicant's Slate interaction history. This is helps Admissions better understand where the student is in the decision-making process and to facilitate any additional outreach Admissions may have with this student. At this time, please do not rely on this form to queue the student for follow-up by Admissions. If a student needs specific follow-up from Admissions, please email us at admiss@umontana.edu with the request.
This portal is still in active development. Your feedback and suggestions are welcome. Please use this form to submit feedback: Faculty Recruitment Portal - Feedback Form. Using this form will ensure the feedback is tracked correctly.
Email Communications
Up to three messages to admitted students outlining program offerings, resources, outcomes, etc.
Per message, we’ll need:
- Content (we can copy edit)
- A horizontal photo to use in our header
- Preferred send date
Once these details are received, Admissions will build the email and send a draft to you to review before sending to students.
