Dropping a Course
Need to Drop a Course?
We understand that sometimes the semester does not go as planned. It can be a challenge to juggle school, family, financial needs, work, medical challenges, and all other aspects of life. If you are failing, have a schedule change, or something else arises to where you do not feel you will be able to meet the course requirements, then it may be time to drop the course. Before dropping a course make sure you have discussed your options with your instructor and that you are within the drop or late drop period.

What is the difference between a course drop and a late course drop?
Course Drop
If you drop your course by the Last Day to Drop Classes with a Refund, course tuition and fees will be refunded (if paid directly by you) and there will be no impact on your University of Montana Transcript.
Late Course Drop/Withdrawing
A late course drop is when you withdraw from a class AFTER the Last Day to Drop Classes with a Refund Deadline, you will not receive a refund and a "W" will appear on your transcript, in lieu of a letter grade. This is to indicate the student was enrolled in the course, but withdrew. A "W" will not affect your GPA but keep in mind that having an excessive amount of withdraw's can negatively impact your future Financial Aid.
