FAR Pilot
From mid-October through the end of November 2026, the Office of the Provost is inviting faculty to try Faculty Activity Reporting (FAR) and share what works and what doesn't. Feedback will shape the tool and its support materials before FAR opens to all faculty in Spring 2027. Joining the pilot is voluntary, and participants can step away at any time.
The pilot is about trying FAR and generating a CV. It does not include submitting anything for evaluation, market adjustment, or sabbatical requests.
Who is invited
Faculty from every college and rank, including tenure-track and non-tenure-track faculty. Comfort with technology is not required, since feedback from new users is especially useful. If more faculty volunteer than there are spots, participants will be chosen to reflect a mix of colleges and ranks.
What participating involves
- Sign up using the form below.
- Get started. Login instructions and a short guide are sent before the pilot begins.
- Try FAR between mid-October and the end of November, adding information at a pace that works for the participant.
- Share feedback in a short survey at the end of the pilot.
Time commitment: about 3 to 4 hours in total across the pilot, including the walkthrough, a first look at the tool, and the survey. Participants who choose to enter more information will spend more time.
Information during the pilot
Who can see participants' FAR records, and how that information is used during the pilot, is described on the FAR Data page. Information from the sign-up form is used only to organize the pilot.
Sign up by Sunday, 19 October 2026. The form takes about 3 minutes.

-
- Pre-loaded from Banner: course enrollments, advising loads, and graduate committees. Participants can review them and report errors.
- Pre-loaded and locked: name, contact information, and current position. Changes are made in the source system and appear in FAR on the next data load.
- Carried over from UM Impact: records that were in UM Impact (and, for the business school, Sedona) were transferred into FAR earlier. Participants can review, edit, or delete anything in their record, and are asked to report anything unexpected in their feedback.
- Carried over from Sedona: for College of Business faculty, activity data that was in Sedona. Participants can review, edit, or delete this data.
- Entered by participants: research and creative scholarship, service, honors, and other sections.
- Ways to add scholarship: entering it by hand, importing a file exported from Google Scholar, importing from PubMed, or reviewing suggested matches and accepting or rejecting them.
- CV generation: participants can generate a CV from their entries, using a standard template or a custom option that lets them choose which entries appear. A generated CV is a file for the participant only.
-
- Interfolio cases or submission workflows for evaluation, market adjustment, or sabbatical requests. Existing processes remain in place.
- The ongoing connection between FAR and UM Impact, which is still being built. Nothing entered during the pilot is sent to UM Impact. See FAR and UM Impact.
FAR is still being refined, and some sections may change or be unavailable during the pilot.

Feedback is reviewed in December and used to improve the tool, the help text, and the training before the Spring 2027 launch. A summary of what was heard and what changed will be shared with participants. Survey responses are attributed to the participant.
-
Name and university email; college or school, department, appointment type, and rank or title; and, optionally, whether the person has used FAR before, what they'd most like FAR to help with, and anything that would help the pilot work for them.
