FAR and UM Impact
UM Impact is a dynamic platform designed to capture, organize, and showcase the full spectrum of Research and Creative Scholarship activities at the University of Montana. This page explains how FAR and UM Impact are related: what has been done, what is being built, and what has not yet been decided. It is updated as work progresses.

What has been completed
In October 2025, research and creative scholarship records that were in UM Impact were transferred into FAR, one time, for faculty who had records there. Faculty can review, edit, or delete these records in FAR.
What is being built
Elsevier, the parent company behind Pure (UM Impact) and Interfolio, is building an ongoing connection that would send selected FAR entries to UM Impact. The design was finalized with Elsevier in March 2026, and the anticipated completion date is November 2026. The connection is not part of the pilot, and nothing entered during the pilot is sent to UM Impact.
What is planned to transfer
The table below shows the design as of March 2026. It lists what the connection could send. It is not a commitment about what will appear on a public profile, which has not been decided.
| FAR section | Planned UM Impact category | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Research and Creative Scholarship: articles, books, chapters, conference proceedings, abstracts, reviews, patents, performances, productions, exhibitions, software, digital media, and other scholarly work | Research outputs | - |
| Research and Creative Scholarship: datasets | Datasets | - |
| Research and Creative Scholarship: presentations | Activities (talks and presentations) | - |
| Grants | Grants | Awarded grants only, not pending. Includes title, sponsor, award date, term, and total funding awarded. |
| Institutional Committees and Professional Membership | Activities (memberships) | - |
| Honors, Awards, and Fellowships | Prizes | - |
What is planned to stay in FAR only
According to the March 2026 design, the following would not be sent to UM Impact: teaching, advising load, non-credit instruction, project mentorship and independent study, graduate committees, service, professional development, activity distribution, case studies, and scholarship of teaching and learning.
What has not been decided
- What appears on a public profile by default.
- Whether faculty choose, entry by entry, what is sent.
- Whether grant funding amounts are sent.
- Whether consulting entries are sent.
- Who can change or stop what is transferred.
- What review happens before the connection is turned on.
