Residential Meal Plan
All students living in an on-campus residence hall are required to purchase one of Campus Dining’s two residential dining plans. UM Campus Dining currently offers two residential dining plans, the Maroon 7 Day Plan and the Silver 5 Day Plan. Residential dining plans can be accessed via your UM Griz Card digital credential set up on your mobile device.
The Maroon 7-Day Plan allows unlimited entries to The Lodge Dining Center anytime during operating hours. Five (5) guest swipes are included with the plan to be used anytime during the semester. The dining plan holder’s unlimited entries can only be used by the dining plan holder to enter the dining hall and cannot be used to host a guest. For added flexibility, the plan also comes with $300 in Dining Dollars.
The Silver 5-Day Plan allows unlimited entries to The Lodge Dining Center anytime during operating hours Monday through Friday each week of the current semester. Five (5) guest swipes are included with the plan to be used Monday - Friday during the semester. The dining plan holder’s unlimited entries can only be used by the dining plan holder to enter the dining hall and cannot be used to host a guest. For added flexibility, the plan also comes with $100 in Dining Dollars
Dining Dollars
Dining Dollars may be used at participating Campus Dining retail locations, including The Market and Food Court in the University Center, Biz Buzz, and Recess. Dining Dollars are not accepted at the Starbucks located in the Emma B. Lommasson Center. At the end of the semester, unused Dining Dollars do not carry forward for future use and are nonrefundable.
Guest Meals
Each dining plan comes with five guest swipes for use in the Lodge Dining Center. After these five swipes are exhausted, you may use Dining Dollars to host a guest. Guest meals can also be used during winter and spring breaks when the Lodge Dining Center is open. You must accompany your guest. Dining plan swipes are nontransferable.
Utilizing Dining Plans
Dining Plans are activated the first day of orientation every semester and are available for use by opting to use Griz Card digital credential (available to students only) or the Griz Card ID card. Griz Cards are nontransferable. The pictured cardholder is the only person who can use that card. Griz Cards must be in readable condition. If a temporary card is being used, you will be asked to provide a photo ID.
Inactive Periods
Residential dining plans are active only during academic semesters. Dining plans will be activated on the first day of orientation and deactivated the last Sunday of each academic semester. Unused Dining Dollars are not allowed to be carried forward for future use and are not eligible for a refund.
There are two exceptions where dining plans are not active during academic semesters:
- Thanksgiving week (Wednesday – Saturday. The Lodge Dining Center reopens for dinner Sunday)
- Spring break (The Lodge Dining Center reopens for dinner Sunday)
Not all Campus Dining locations are open during these days; please check our hours of operation at the following link for more information. https://www.umt.edu/dining/locations/default.php Residential dining plans are not available during summer break
Dining Plan Changes and Cancellations
All dining plan changes are facilitated through the Campus Dining Main Office in The Lodge Dining Center Room 101.
Changing dining plans
You may upgrade your dining plan anytime during the semester. Dining plan funds on your Griz Card will be adjusted accordingly. Your student account will be updated and charged 24-48 hours after our office processes your request. If you have already paid your fees, you may pay the difference with cash, check, or credit card with Student Accounts in Business Services. If you wish to downgrade your dining plan, you must do so no later than 42 days from the start of dining plan activation for the current semester. Dining plans are prorated daily and changes are processed accordingly. You may only downgrade your dining plan once each semester. The plan change will be updated and refunded 24-48 hours after our office processes your request.
Canceling dining plans
If you request to move out of a residence hall and your request is approved by UM Housing, Campus Dining will be notified to process the dining plan cancellation through this process. You will need to contact Campus Dining by email at dining@umontana.edu if you choose to keep your dining plan while living off campus.
Withdraw from the University
You will need to present proof of withdrawal from the registrar’s office. UM Housing will provide an emailed copy of your authorized checkout form which will serve as verification for your dining plan cancellation. Once received, your dining plan will be canceled according to your authorized checkout date. If a refund is due, it will be issued in accordance with the weekly prorated refund schedule. Campus Dining will process your refund, less a $25 cancellation fee, if applicable, from the date we receive official notice of withdrawal from UM Housing.
