Curry Health Center for Distance-Only Students
Even if you're taking classes entirely online, you can still access many Curry Health Center services. To use Curry Health Center services, you'll need to opt in to the Health Service Fee each semester.
Students officially registered in Online/Distance Only status are not required to fulfill the immunization and TB screening requirements. If your status ever changes to attend classes in-person, you will need to complete these requirements.
Please notify Curry Health Center each semester if you will continue as a distance-only student. This allows us to maintain your exemption from immunization and TB screening requirements and prevent health holds from being placed on your account. Email us at contactcurry@mso.umt.edu.
Getting Started Checklist
- Opt in to the Health Service Fee through the Solutions Center (see below)
- Upload your health insurance card to the Patient Portal
- Review your health insurance options and requirements
- Explore Curry Health Center services and resources
How to Opt In to the Health Service Fee
- Click here to open the Opt In Fees Form.
- Log in using your UM NetID and password.
- Complete the requested information.
- Under Student Accounts – Choose Campus, select Online/Distance Only Student.
- Under Fee Options, select Health Service Fee.
- Submit the form.
Once processed, you'll be able to access Curry Health Center services covered by the Health Service Fee.
Important:
The Health Services Fee is not prorated; students will pay the full $303 health service fee regardless of credit load. Please do not change your registration to “On-Campus.” This affects institutional reporting and may cost more.
Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)
Distance-only students may also enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) by completing the Change Student Insurance Selection form.
Using SHIP and Curry Health Center
- If you enroll in SHIP only, you'll use your insurance at local in-network Blue Cross Blue Shield providers.
- To use SHIP at Curry Health Center, you must opt in to both:
- The Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP), and
- The Health Service Fee
This ensures you have access to both your insurance benefits and Curry Health Center services.
Can online students living outside Montana use CHC through telehealth?
No. State licensing restrictions prevent CHC from providing medical or counseling telehealth to students living outside Montana, except for limited follow-up care for established patients (e.g., medication refills during breaks). Insurance billing changes do not expand access for out-of-state online students.
