Admission

Admission Application Instructions

  • Applying for admission to the graduate program in Mathematics is a two-step process:

First: Complete the Online Application

Fill out the Online Application. There are three steps involved in the application process.

  1. Fill out and submit the Graduate Program portion of the application that comes up when you click the above link. An email will be sent to you with a link to setup your account and finish your application.
  2. Click the link in your email and complete the rest of the application fields and submit.
  3. You will be directed to your application status portal. You will be able to pay your application fee and upload supplemental materials on this page. You will also receive another email with a link to this page so you can log in later and complete these steps and track your application progress.

As part of this process, applicants must do the following:

  1. Self-report all colleges and universities attended (including grade point average).
  2. 3 Letters of recommendation.
  3. Upload a personal statement of objectives.
  4. Upload content descriptions of all college-level mathematics courses completed.
  5. Pay the application fee.

Second: Additional application must be sent directly to the Department of Mathematical Sciences.

  1. Request that official transcripts be sent to the Department of Mathematical Sciences (address below) from all colleges and universities you have attended (University of Montana may be unofficial)  Transcripts may also be transmitted electronically through the National Student Clearinghouse.
  2. In addition to the above requirements, applicants are encouraged to submit other evidence indicating the ability to pursue an advanced degree in mathematics (such as the GRE subject test in mathematics).

Admission Deadlines

  • Fall semester - Applicants are strongly encouraged to complete their applications by January 15th. Applications received after this date will be considered on a space available basis.  Teaching assistantships will start being filled by applications received by January 15th and continue until all positions have been filled.
  • Spring semester - Rolling admissions
